Wilderness First Aid Caveats

Posted By Matt Woodruff On 26 January 2011 @ 18:36 In Uncategorized | No Comments

Some caveats are in order regarding this section of the site.  I am not a doctor or dispensing medical advice.  The laws as to standards of care and treatment vary from state to state and I make no undertaking to advise as to what is legal where.  In considering any suggestion, you have to temper it with your own level of training, experience and standards of care in your area.  The Boy Scouts of America have developed their own [1] Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Policy Guidelines and I recommend anybody in the scouting program study this document.  The current Red Cross Wilderness First Aid and Remote Care course tracks this curriculum, so if you take the Red Cross Course, without any optional modules, you will be meeting the Boy Scout curriculum.  Remember, a scout is obedient, so if you want to be a part of their program, this is the policy you should follow.

Since I have different interests that probably appeal to different people, I have set up some categories for my postings:

  • [3] Wilderness First Aid and other First Aid topics.  I an a Red Cross First Aid, Wilderness First Aid and CPR instructor and get a lot of questions on these subjects.  I am providing a separate category for discussion of these issues, although I will continue to post outdoor and scout related first aid issues in the Scout and Outdoor category too.
  • [4] Scouts and Outdoors.  I am a Boy Scout leader in Troop 641 and enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities.  My comments about scouting issues, outdoor gear and related issues are here.
  • [5] Amateur Radio.  One of my hobbies is amateur radio.  I am a general class operator, call sign KA5YYD.  I put ham radio related postings here.
  • [6] Jeep.  In June, 2009, I bought a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.  This is the place for Jeep related discussion.
  • [7] Neighborhood Issues.  This is a place for things of interest in the Memorial Villages of Houston and in Hedwig Village in particular.
  • [8] Politics.  I am involved in the political process and will put my thoughts on political matters that I care to share (other than village issues that will be in the neighborhood section) here.
